The Goat Mountain Soap Company... The Early Years

Three years ago we were living in the town of Creston, a stones throw away from our present location in Yahk. Marlene already had a successful craft business hand painting terra cotta flower pots, bird houses and feeders.  One year, about ten years ago, Marlene started experimenting with the soap making process. The house was quickly turned into a factory. There, in the kitchen of our small house, Marlene began producing soap, mostly in small batches for friends, family, and Christmas craft shows. The dining room table was where we labeled soap and a spare room became our ‘warehouse’. We soon ran out of space as the demand for our soaps increased.

Looking back now, we wondered how we did it, but we knew we had something… a great product

The opportunity to move to Yahk, 25 minutes to the East, presented itself when the ice cream business called Two Scoop Steve came up for sale. An ice cream place in Yahk? Well, first of all we love ice cream, and secondly, it was a great chance for us to build a brand new shop to produce our soaps along with a retail outlet.
